Customer Problems

The data exchange between ECAD and SAÜ was purely manual and very cumbersome for the operator. It was time-consuming and included a high risk of error.
Furthermore, it required lots of verification and communication, as the BOMs were handled in spreadsheets and imported to SAP by the Product Data Group.

Requirements

Grundfos needed to manage BOM information in SAP as an automated process from PADS Logic to SAP, which then generates and updates BOM.
Grundfos wanted:

  • BOMs to match their current sorting format
  • ECM to be visible in the change history
  • Sub-items for Reference Designators to exploited the easy and secure handling of assembly variants

Project Phase

Project Start

  • New ECAD projects are created from PADS templates or other design data stored in SAP or other sources.
  • Integration creates all needed documents and materials in SAP and links it.

Save

  • Design data and all needed drawings, manufacturing data and other files are automatically created out of PADS and uploaded to SAP.
  • BOM is created for new designs. For existing designs a “Delta BOM Upload” is performed. Different Types of BOM are supported like Production-, Engineering- and Universal –BOM.

Library

  • Separate library integration allows to synchronic existing ECAD parts with the matching SAP Material.

Thanks to XPLM‘s Integration allowing for BOM management in SAP, the company can not handle the production data and maintenance of BOMs more reliably, but also reduce errors using integrated automation functions. The current ECAD integration to SAP does not need to be controlled manually and the resulting data is far more precise then before the implementation. Production errors occur very rarely, saving the user time and substantial money for the company.
