Most CAD systems include built-in translation functions that read and write data from other manufacturers. However, such functions can only read and write the raw "Boundary Representation" (B-REP) from a third-party CAD model, and cannot recognise the properties, assembly relationships, associated drawings and non-graphic features of a complete model.
This is why these "B-REPs" are also called ‘leftovers’ by engineers. Leftovers can be useful, but if the migrated design is to be changed while maintaining the original design intent, the built-in translation function does not offer enough.
For this reason, companies choose a translation tool that retains the original design intent when migrating to a new CAD system.
Elysium’s CADfeature is a highly qualified, automated and feature-based translation system that offers a comprehensive transfer of design intent to meet the needs of developers and companies.
