Full Speed Ahead: DigiTain Demonstrates Progress and International Relevance
The research project DigiTain (Digitalization for Sustainability), which focuses on fully digital product development for sustainable electric drive architectures, is in full swing in its third year. On June 25, 2025, around 100 consortium members gathered for the fifth DigiTain project meeting, held in a hybrid format. The 60 participants attending in person were welcomed by the project partner Institute of Structural Mechanics and Dynamics in Aerospace Engineering (ISD) in Stuttgart. The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Tim Ricken, head of the ISD, together with Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Manfred Bischoff from the Institute for Structural Mechanics and Dynamics (IBB), and Marlies Springmann from the Institute of Aircraft Design (IFB).
Despite minor delays in the fuel cell development area, the meeting made one thing clear: DigiTain is on track.
A key topic of discussion was the increasing visibility of the project in the field of “digital certification” and the strengthened coordination with overarching certification working groups, including representatives from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) and the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).
These developments have not gone unnoticed internationally: DigiTain is gaining growing attention – particularly due to its innovative approach to digitalization, sustainable development, and certification within the automotive value chain.
